The General Manager of Pilbara Airlines, Mr Ed Turner, announced the appointment of DASAM Aviation Pty Ltd to provide a report on the concept and implementation to establish a Civil Aviation Safety Authority approved Part 145 maintenance organisation.
The principle of the company, Mr Darren Barlow, is an internationally experienced aircraft engineer and manager with over 20 years in the aviation industry. Darren holds Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration through the Engineering Council, in conjunction with Membership grade (MRAeS) with the Royal Aeronautical Society. Darren has previously held CASA approved Form 4 Holder – Part 145 Responsible Manager positions for aircraft line and base maintenance. He is an EASA (UK CAA Issued) Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence holder, with full and unrestricted B1, B2 and C categories. He also holds a CASA issued CASR Part 66 Aircraft Engineer Licence, with full and unrestricted B1, B2 and C categories. Darren has extensive aircraft maintenance and start up experience in the UK, Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific and Australia.
Mr Turner said Pilbara Airlines was considering setting up its own maintenance organisation as a subsidiary company which will be wholly owned by the airline. The company will also provide maintenance to GA and other airline operators and will be located at the airline’s base in the Pilbara. This will require substantial aircraft hangarage and associated facilities to be constructed , as well as tooling and ground services equipment, and will cost in the vicinity of $15 million to establish. The airline has requested this report to be submitted by the 7th of November 2019 for consideration by Directors.
