Mr Peter Carter and Mr Khoi Vo announced today the formation of a new international and domestic airline called Pilbara Airlines, which will provide direct airline services from the Pilbara to a number of Asian destinations.
Mr Carter is a local businessman in Port Hedland, with interests in photography and travel, and a Councillor of the Town of Port Hedland and President of the Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Vo is a Perth businessman and has a network of many beauty and telephone shops in major shopping centres throughout Australia. Mr Vo said that the new direct flights will reduce the cost and time for local residents wishing to travel to Asia.
Mr Carter said the first objective of the company is to obtain an international and domestic airline licence (AOC) that will enable the airline to operate to Asia and Australian capital cities.
Mr Vo said the company will now appoint an experienced General Manager, responsible for developing the airline.
Mr Carter said the company was looking at Embraer 190 aircraft to operate the routes, but would be carrying out an investigation into other aircraft types to determine the best option for the company.
